Athens up 2.27%, Madrid and London post gains, Paris unchanged

Milan bourse adds 0.26% ahead of BCE interest rate move (ANSA) - Milan, February 5 - Italy's stock exchange closed up Wednesday ahead of interest rate announcements Thursday by the European Central Bank and the Bank of England.

In Milan, the FTSE-Mib index added 0.26% to close at 19,069 points, below January's highs on below-average volume of 2.5 billion euros in shares traded. Shares in Poltrona Frau SpA (PFG.MI), makers of upscale leather upholstery, soared 18.13% to 2.93 euros on news that Ferrari Chairman Luca Cordero di Montezemolo has agreed to give up his controlling stake to Hawarth Inc., a privately held design company based in Michigan.

Elsewhere in Europe, Greece's ATHEX index jumped 2.27% to close at 1,240.11 points, while in Madrid the IBEX index added 0.21% to end the trading day at 9,775 points.

The London FTSE-100 index gained 0.13% to end at 6.457,89 points while the Frankfurt DAX index shed 0.13% to close at 9,116.32 points.

Paris ended flat, with the CAC-40 index closing at 4,117.79 points.
