New inflation 'basket' reflects consumer trends (ANSA) - Rome, February 4 - The contents of the 'basket' of most-frequently bought goods used to measure inflation in Italy has changed this year to reflect new consumer habits, the national statistics agency Istat said Tuesday. The 2014 inflation 'basket' contains electronic cigarettes, coffee machines and the relative pods or capsules, online newspapers, biodegradable bags for organic waste and packaged grated cheese.

Goods and services no longer on the list include electronics repairs and women's suits, which have been replaced by dresses. Organic yogurt has been usurped by the pro-biotic variety.
