Muti to stay in Chicago until 2020

"In 2020 I won't be 80 yet," Muti said at Monday's announcement, quipping that his family was known for youthful vitality continuing into old age. "My great-grandfather remarried at 76," said the great conductor, who was music director of La Scala in Milan for 19 years.
"I love Chicago, and I love making music with the extraordinary musicians of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra," said Muti, who started leading the CSO in 2010 and is also honorary life conductor at Rome's Teatro dell'Opera. "We have a symbiosis, a warm and unique way of working together, and I look forward to continuing this relationship.
"Chicago is my home away from home, and I am very glad it will continue to be so," Muti said. "The people here are very special, and their support of this fine orchestra is essential to its future."
