Letta says Qatar may up presence in Italian energy (ANSA) - Rome, February 3 - Italian Premier Enrico Letta on Monday said Qatar may expand its presence in the Italian energy sector.

Speaking from Doha, Letta reported that Qatar and Italy were considering "possible additional presence of the Qatari capital" in Italy's energy sector, ranging from Italian energy giant ENI to reinforcing the liquified natural gas (LNG) terminal near Rovigo.

The LNG terminal near Rovigo is an offshore regasification terminal operated by Qatar Terminal Ltd., a joint venture of Qatar Petroleum, ExxonMobil Italiana Gas, and Edison SpA. It began operation in 2009, and receives shipments of liquefied natural gas from Qatar to furnish the Italian gas network.
