The section of wall that embraces the historical section of the city just off Piazzetta dei Fornelli caved in after the road supporting it collapsed, according to local authorities. The municipal authorities ordered the evacuation of some 11 residential properties in that zone as a result of the collapse, and the residents of the houses in question have been relocated either in hotels or in other residential homes due to the imminent danger took adjacent buildings.

Volterra Mayor Marco Buselli ordered local elementary and high schools to stay closed for the duration of the storm emergency alert so as to avoid any harm to students.
