(ANSA) - Florence, January 30 - Amanda Knox was "petrified" by her 28-year sentence for the 2007 murder of her Perugia flatmate Meredith Kercher but she did not speak or cry, her lawyer said.

Carlo Dalla Vedova phoned the US student at her Seattle home where she had been nervously awaiting the verdict with her mother.

Knox's Italian ex-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito got 25 years.

The court ordered him not to leave Italy, confiscating his passport.
