Knox, Sollecito to appeal to supreme court (ANSA) - Florence, January 30 - Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito will appeal their 28-year and 25-year sentences for the 2007 murder of Perugia flatmate Meredith Kercher to the supreme court, their lawyers said after the verdicts.

"It was a big blow, we're going to appeal, Amanda is innocent," said Luciano Virga.

The lawyer of Knox's ex-boyfriend Sollecito, sentenced to 25 years and ordered to stay in Italy, said the Florence appeals verdict was "just a phase" in what she predicted would be an acquittal by the supreme Court of Cassation.

The lawyer, Giulia Bongiorno, described the appeals trial as "absolutely empty" of proof.
