Italy's House Speaker blasts brawling 5-Star MPs (see related) (ANSA) - Rome, January 30 - Italian Lower House Speaker Laura Boldrini on Thursday blasted a press room brawl in which MPs from the anti-establishment 5-Star Movement (M5S) made it impossible for journalists to interview Democratic Party (PD) whip Roberto Speranza.

"MPs preventing another MP from being interviewed, thereby interfering with the press' right and duty to inform the public, is intolerable and evokes troubling memories," Boldrini said in a statement. The House Speaker went on to express "heartfelt solidarity" with President of the Republic Giorgio Napolitano after the M5S, led by gadfly comic Beppe Grillo, announced it had made a formal petition for his impeachment.

The president "is a democratic guarantee. I deplore this ill-advised decision," Boldrini said.
