Vatican underwhelmed by Rolling Stone laurel

'Mud-slinging at predecessor pointless'

29 January, 15:26
Vatican underwhelmed by Rolling Stone laurel (ANSA) - Vatican City, January 29 - Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi on Wednesday criticized a cover article on Pope Francis published in the current issue of Rolling Stone magazine. "The article," he said, "shows the attention given in certain circles to Pope Francis's break with the past on certain issues. "Unfortunately, the article discredits itself by slipping into the usual mistake made by superficial journalism: in order to highlight the positive aspects of Pope Francis, it throws Pope Benedict's papacy into a bad light, and it does this with a shocking level of coarseness. "A shame, really. This does not serve Pope Francis either, as he knows well how much the Church owes to his predecessor".
