(ANSA) - L'Aquila, January 29 - Police are looking into the
possibility that the theft last weekend of a relic containing
the blood of former pope John Paul II and a cross may have been
ordered from abroad.
The relic and cross were taken from the church of San
Pietro della Ienca, in the mountains of the central Abruzzo
region where the Polish pope was fond of taking a break to
meditate and ski.
Reports say that the theft was "ordered" from abroad,
although police say they are investigating all potential leads.
Search operations in the area were suspended on Monday due
to bad weather conditions, but were due to resume Thursday.
