Soccer: Juve's Pirlo named player of 2012-13 season (ANSA) - Rome, January 28 - Juventus and Italy midfielder Andrea Pirlo was given Serie A's player of the 2012-13 season award at a ceremony organised by the Italian Professional Footballers Association (AIC) late on Monday. It was the second consecutive year that the 34-year has won the award, voted by the Italian top-flight's players, coaches, referees, current and former Italy coaches and selected journalists.

The playmaker has helped Juventus win two consecutive Serie A titles since joining them from AC Milan in 2011 and was instrumental in Italy reaching the final of Euro 2012.

His tactical intelligence and inch-perfect passing have also contributed to Juve's strong showing in the league this season. They are six points clear at the top of the table. Pirlo and his Juve team-mates Andrea Barzagli, Giorgio Chiellini and Arturo Vidal were selected in the team of last season. Juve boss Antonio Conte was named best coach.
