Renzi leaps to president's defence after serious insult (see related) (ANSA) - Rome, January 28 - The new head of the center-left Democratic Party (PD) has leapt to the defence of Italian President Giorgio Napolitano, who was called one of the worst insults in the Italian language on Tuesday by an MP from the anti-establishment 5-Star Movement (M5S). "An M5S MP has offended the president of the republic, calling him an executioner. Such behaviour is unbearable and a form of stupidity, more so even than verbal abuse," said Florence Mayor Matteo Renzi on Facebook, expressing his "solidarity" with the president. Earlier Tuesday, Giorgio Sorial called Napolitano a "boia" or executioner for not intervening in a controversial government decree headed for a vote in the House, which would approve selling off 100 billion euros in gold from the central bank.
