Man sentenced to 18 years for murdering estranged wife (ANSA) - Monza, January 28 - A court in the northern city of Monza on Tuesday sentenced a 46-year-old Moroccan citizen to 18 years behind bars for murdering his estranged wife last year.

Moustafa Hashounani confessed to killing 45-year-old Antonia Stanghellini on January 19, 2013, in their apartment because she refused to take him back after a 10-month separation.

Stanghellini had reportedly thrown him out after suffering domestic violence, which she never reported to police.

The couple had two children.

The court declined to impose a life sentence sought by the prosecution.
