Reliquary with John Paul II's blood stolen from rural church (ANSA) - L'Aquila, January 27 - More than 50 police armed with sniffing dogs on Monday combed the zone around a tiny church in rural central Italy for traces of a stolen reliquary containing blood from Pope John Paul II. The reliquary was taken along with a cross two days ago from the church of San Pietro della Ienca, located at the foot of the Gran Sasso mountain in central Italy, in the province of L'Aquila. The provincial commander of the paramilitary Carabinieri police, Savino Guarino, feared the thieves may have dismantled the sacred object.
