Bomb alert in St Peter's Square called off (see related) (ANSA) - Rome, January 24 - Police called off a bomb alert in St Peter's Square Friday after a sweep turned up no traces of explosives. A threat from an anonymous caller was given close attention hours after a device exploded earlier in central Rome outside a foundation linked to France's embassy to the Holy See.

The scare came during an audience with French President Francois Hollande and Pope Francis.
