Berlusconi says Renzi meeting created reform impetus (ANSA) - Potenza, January 24 - Ex-premier Silvio Berlusconi said Friday that his earlier meeting with Democratic Party (PD) leader Matteo Renzi, which sparked controversy, created the impetus for reform of Italy's discredited electoral laws. Berlusconi said his session last weekend with Renzi "gave the go-ahead not only to the electoral law, but we also set off the first real, important reform of our constitutional system, because as things stand, Italy is not governable," said the founder of the centre-right Forza Italia party.

Berlusconi made the comments in a telephone call broadcast at a meeting of the Forza Italia local Potenza chapter, in the southern Italian region of Basilicata.

"Finally I have found someone in the PD with whom it is possible to talk and to reason," said Berlusconi.

"Let's hope these reforms can continue".
