Letta expresses solidarity with Grasso after Mafia threat (see related) (ANSA) - Rome, January 23 - Italian Premier Enrico Letta on Thursday publicly expressed his solidarity to Italy's current Senate Speaker and former national anti-mafia prosecutor Pietro Grasso hours after it emerged the Mafia was ready to kill him in a bombing planned in the Sicilian town of Monreale when he was still an anti-mafia prosecutor. The information came out in testimony by a mobster-turned-informant in a court hearing Thursday.

Letta was speaking at a presentation of the government's anti-mafia policy report. "In these hours threats have emerged that require answers at levels that meet the challenges," Letta said. "I would like to express my profound solidarity (to Grasso, who has been) the object of terrible threats in these hours".
