Tax chief says 545 bn euros in taxes unpaid over 15 years (ANSA) - Rome, January 22 - The head of Italy's inland revenue agency on Wednesday said the country racked up 545 billion euros in unpaid taxes over the last 15 years.

Only 5-6% of the total could be collected, however, said Attilio Befera to parliament's supervisory commission on taxes.

The rest is unrecoverable because the creditors are deceased, bankrupt or destitute, Befera said.

The agency has already gone after what can be clawed back, he added.
