Italy's public debt dropped in third quarter, says Eurostat (ANSA) - Brussels, January 22 - Italy's huge public debt fell for the first time since 2011 in the third quarter of last year, the European Union's statistics office Eurostat said Wednesday.

Italy's national debt stood at 132.9% of gross domestic product in the third quarter of 2013, compared to 133.3% for the previous three-month period, Eurostat said.

It was the first reduction since the third quarter of 2011.

In absolute terms, the debt fell from 2.076371 trillion euros to 2.068722 trillion, the agency said.
