Investigators uncover presumed 'crime cartel'

Sixteen arrested for alleged corruption and tender rigging (ANSA) - Reggio Calabria, January 21 - Finance police on Tuesday arrested 16 people in connection with investigations into alleged tender rigging and corruption that also led to the seizure of assets worth 40 million euros.

The suspects - entrepreneurs, civil servants and State employees - face possible charges of interfering with the tender process, corruption and disclosing confidential information. Investigations have revealed the presence of a crime cartel based in the province of Reggio Calabria and operating throughout the southern region of Calabria that is allegedly able to pilot the outcome of public tenders.
