Pope blesses lambs on St. Agnes feast day
Wool to be used in ceremonial pallium for Francis21 January, 14:05
The wool from the lambs will be used in the weaving of a white pallium, a special ceremonial cloak worn by the pope and certain archbishops on important feast days.
This particular pallium is to be worn on June 29, the feast days of apostles Peter and Paul, who are patron saints in Rome.
The traditional ceremony with the lambs takes place every January 21 on the occasion of the feast of St. Agnes, who legend says was killed in the year 304 because she adhered to Christianity.
