Police bust drugs ring in Catania (ANSA) - Catania, January 21 - Police on Tuesday arrested 48 people in a probe into the activities of an alleged drugs ring in the Sicilian city of Catania.

The suspects are believed to belong to an organisation operating in the central S. Cristoforo district that has an annual turnover of four million euros. They face possible charges of trafficking and selling drugs, illegal weapons possession and possession of stolen goods. Investigations also revealed contacts with a local Mafia clan, but prosecutors have reportedly not added the aggravation of favouring organised crime to the list of suspected offences.
