London and Paris close flat, Madrid and Greece lose ground

Milan bourse +0.11% as investors like Finmeccanica and Fiat (ANSA) - Milan, January 21 - The Italian stock exchange on Tuesday added 0.11% to end the trading day at 19,995 points on volumes of 2.55 billion euros.

Shares in defense and aerospace giant Finmeccanica jumped 3.51% on comments by CEO Alessandro Pansa that the company might sell off its transportation sector, while Fiat rose 1.77% on news the Italian carmaker has completed its takeover of Chrysler. Elsewhere in Europe, Paris and London closed flat, with the CAC-40 index ending at 4,323.87 points and the FTSE-100 index closing at 6,834.26 points. In Madrid, the IBEX index shed 0.9% to close at 10,357.40 points and Greece's Athex index lost 1.95% to close at 1,215.34 points.

The Frankfurt DAX index added 0.15% to end the trading day at 9,730.12 points.

The spread between Italy's 10-year bond and German Bunds closed at 209 basis points, up slightly from 205 basis points on Monday, with the yield at 3.83%.
