Ex-Vatican prelate Scarano 'depressed'

Lawyer asks if psychiatrist can visit money-laundering suspect

Ex-Vatican prelate Scarano 'depressed' (see related) (ANSA) - Rome, January 21 - Monsignor Nunzio Scarano, the former Vatican prelate who is under investigation for alleged money-laundering, "has fallen into a state of depression" as a result of fresh restrictive measures against him, his lawyer said Tuesday.

Silverio Sica added that he would ask for Scarano to be allowed to receive a visit from his psychiatrist. Scarano is currently under house arrest after being detained in June on suspicion of planning to elude customs with 20 million euros in cash for a family of boat-builders he was friends with.

On Tuesday he was issued a new arrest warrant in connection with a separate money-laundering probe.
