Earthquake shakes south Italy, no injuries reported (ANSA) - Rome, January 20 - An earthquake Monday morning sent frightened residents of communities in southern Italy running into the streets, but authorities said there were no immediate reports of injuries. The quake, with a magnitude of about 4.2, was felt in the mountainous area between Molise and Campania, a region about 200 kilometers southeast of Rome. The shock of the earthquake was felt in other communities as far away as Benevento and Naples.

The same area was struck on December 29 and authorities said the tremors at that time were stronger.

They were checking for damage and injures after Monday morning's quake, which struck at about 8:12 a.m.

Some schools evacuated students as a precaution.
