Tuscan man held for killing roommate with hatchet (ANSA) - Massa e Cozzile, January 17 - A man living in a group home in the Tuscan town of Massa e Cozzile is accused of settling an argument with his roommate by killing him with a hatchet, police said Friday.

Workers at the group home where the fatal attack took place late Thursday blocked the suspect from fleeing before police arrived. The man, Gianluca Lotti, 38, previously had been convicted of battering his 20-year-old girlfriend with a stick and ending her life with a drill-bit in 1998.

Judges in Lotti's lower court trial for the murder of Silvia Gianni gave him a 24-year prison sentence and found him partly mentally infirm.
