Train derails, track cut off linking Italy to France (ANSA) - Genoa, January 17 - The rail line connecting northwestern Italy to France was cut off Friday following a landslide and a train derailment that injured two workers on board. The area, about 500 meters from the station in the town of Andora, is connected by a sole track and heavy delays were expected. The 200 passengers on board the train were uninjured. At least one car and the engine completely derailed from the intercity Milano-Ventimiglia train. The injured rail workers were said not to be badly hurt.

Northwestern Italy has been battered by torrential rain since late Thursday, with several families forced to evacuate their homes. Trains delays were expected in the entire northwest.

Weather is predicted to improve Monday.
