Cycling: Former world champ Ballan banned for two years (ANSA) - Rome, January 17 - Former road-race world champion Alessandro Ballan was banned from cycling for two years for doping offences on Friday by an Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) tribunal. Ballan, the 2008 world champion, was found guilty of "use or attempted use of banned substances" after the tribunal gained access to evidence from a criminal investigation into the activities of his former team, Lampre.

The tribunal also banned a pharmacist from sport for life for involvement in the case, while a doctor was suspended for four years.
