Letta says 'unacceptable' for marines to face death in India (see previous) (ANSA) - Rome, January 10 - Italian Premier Enrico Letta said Friday it would be "unacceptable" if India failed to respect its promises not to apply the death penalty to two Italian marines being tried there in the murder of two Indian fishermen. Earlier Friday Indian media reported that an anti-terrorism law that allows the death penalty as a possible punishment was being considered in the ongoing trial. "The Italian government is working with maximum determination on this case and it will remain by the side of the marines and their families until we have achieved the goal of bringing them back to Italy," Letta said after a special meeting on the issue with Foreign Minister Emma Bonino and other cabinet members.
