Youth brain dead after being shot in head in Rome (ANSA) - Rome, January 9 - A 17-year-old youth who was shot in the head earlier in the week in Rome was declared brain dead on Thursday.

The young male, who police said had a criminal record for minor drug offences, was found in a pool of blood in the Tor Bella Monaca district of the capital by a passerby who alerted emergency services.

He underwent surgery in Rome's Tor Vergata hospital.

Police are still investigating the possibility he was shot in a dispute involving drugs.
