Ranks of jobless men grows 17.2% in a year, jobless women 6.1%

Italian unemployment hits new record of 12.7% (ANSA) - Rome, January 8 - Unemployment in Italy touched a record 12.7% in November 2013, the Italian statistics agency Istat said on Wednesday.

The figure is the highest since Italy began keeping track in 1977.

The ranks of the jobless reached 3.25 million people, up 12.1% compared to November 2012. In terms of rapid job loss, men have been harder hit than women over the course of the last year. The number of jobless men grew 17.2% from November to November, compared to a 6.1% for women.
