Italy and Senegal sign 45-million-euro aid package (ANSA) - Dakar, January 7 - Italy and Senegal on Tuesday signed a three-year, 45-million-euro aid package to develop farming and small and medium businesses while supporting gender equality in the African country.

Under the deal Italian Foreign Minister Emma Bonino and her Senegalese counterpart Mankeur Ndiaye signed in the Senegalese capital, 30 million euros will be credited and 15 million euros are being granted.

Along with Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger, Senegal is a priority country in terms of Italy's foreign aid policy, receiving 292 million euros with no strings attached and another 129 million euros in credit since 1985.

A cooperation accord between the two countries, granting Senegal 60 million euros through 2013, was renewed in December 2010.
