Viterbo parades world's longest Epiphany stocking (ANSA) - Viterbo, January 3 - The city of Viterbo, north of Rome, awaited the annual arrival of the world's longest stocking for the Feast of the Epiphany on January 6.

The 'Befana' stocking - so called after the old woman on a broomstick who traditionally delivers sweets or coal to Italian children on the feast day - measures 53 m.

As in past years it will be transported over the two-kilometre route through the town centre by classic Fiat 500 cars accompanied by 150 people dressed up as 'befane'. The stocking initiative, organised by a local community centre, is now in its 13th year. Epiphany is a public holiday in Italy and a day on which people normally exchange sweets and other gifts.
