Italian port used to transfer Syrian chemical weapons (ANSA) - Rome, January 3 - Italy on Friday confirmed it has made one of its ports available for "the transfer of Syrian chemical materials" to a US ship prior to their "destruction in international waters," the foreign ministry said. Also on Friday, a Norwegian and a Danish ship set sail for Syria, where they will pick up the material. It will be brought over "in sealed containers, following strict technical and environmental standards," and will be destroyed through hydrolysis, the foreign ministry added.
