Some 350 Italians injured in New Year's fireworks mishaps (ANSA) - Rome, January 2 - Some 350 people were injured in fireworks mishaps surrounding New Year's celebrations, authorities said Thursday. The number was a sharp drop from one year ago, when 600 injuries were reported. Among those most seriously hurt Tuesday and Wednesday were a boy who lost his hand in Milan after picking up a firework that landed in his backyard. The town of Tivoli, outside Rome, witnessed five young men and a father of one rushed to hospital after a shack containing fireworks exploded.

Doctors said they were in critical condition. As in previous years, the most injuries were recorded in Naples at 50.
