Some 1,548,500 people attended his 30 general audiences, while 87,400 partook in special audiences. Other events included Masses and liturgical celebrations in St Peter's Basilica and Square, drawing 2,282,000 faithful and spectators. Another 2,706,000 were in attendance for his Angelus and Regina Coeli celebrations in St Peter's Square. The total number of attendants to the pope's orations are estimated at 6,623,900. The data do not include events outside the Vatican. "Just think about his apostolic visit to Brazil in July for World Youth Day in Rio de Janeiro, or his trips in Italy to Lampedusa, Cagliari and Assisi and other visits in the Rome diocese," said a Vatican statement.
