Syrian migrant who filmed Italian camp abuses 'disappears' (ANSA) - Agrigento, December 31 - The Syrian refugee whose cell phone footage of migrants stripped naked and sprayed with anti-scabies medication caused an outcry after it was broadcast on Italian TV disappeared from a Lampedusa island migrant reception center two days ago, police said Tuesday. "He voluntarily left Lampedusa on board a ferry to Porto Empedocle," said police in the Sicilian city of Agrigento. Porto Empedocle is off the west coast of Sicily. The man, whose lawyer has been notified of his departure, is currently aboard and is in good health, the police said. The hearing of three Eritrean migrants still being held at the Lampedusa center along with 14 others who have agreed to act as State's witnesses in a human trafficking trial has been set for January 9, Italian MP Khalid Chaouki said. Chaouki barricaded himself in the Lampedusa center for several days before Christmas, obtaining the transfer of 169 migrants to other facilities.
