Napolitano 'to stay in office as long as necessary' (see previous) (ANSA) - Rome, December 31 - Italian President Giorgio Napolitano said he would stay in office "so long as necessary" and "certainly not for long" in his year-end address Tuesday. In a record eighth speech of its kind, having become the first president to be re-elected after a seven-year term earlier this year, Napolitano said he would stay in office "until the situation in the country and its institutions makes me feel it is necessary and possible, and so long as I am physically able. "Until then, and not a day longer, and therefore certainly only for a short time," added the 88-year-old.
