Napolitano says 2013 among the toughest in Italian history (ANSA) - Rome, December 31 - Italian President Giorgio Napolitano on Tuesday called 2013 "one of the heaviest and disquieting years in the history of the Republic" in his eighth year-end address, a record for an Italian president, having become the first-ever to be re-elected earlier this year after completing his seven-year mandate. "The next year must be better for Italy, for the country and especially for those who have suffered the tough consequences of the economic crisis," he said, adding that Europe and Italy were exiting the euro crisis.
