European markets open New Year's Eve post year-end gains (ANSA) - Milan, December 31 - Markets advanced across Europe on Tuesday, paced by the Paris CAC index, as stocks in the exchanges that were open for business as usual on the last day of 2013 posted their final year-end gains. London gained 0.3%, while Amsterdam jumped 0.5%. Paris, meanwhile, advanced 0.5% and Madrid posted gains of 0.2%. The annual gains posted by European stock markets are the steepest since 2009.

The Milan bourse was closed.
