South Italy has lost '600,000 jobs in 6 years' (ANSA)- Rome, December 27 - Southern Italy has lost 600,000 jobs over the past six years and the economic crisis has wiped out some 43.7 billion euros of area's gross domestic product, according to data released by industrial employers' association Confindustria Friday.

Confindustria went on to say that the decline in GDP was slowing and the business confidence was starting to show signs of recovery.

Economic data released earlier this month by national statistics office Istat showed that national gross domestic product in the third quarter of 2013 was flat, following two years of negative growth. This led Economy Minister Fabrizio Saccomanni to say that eurozone's third-largest economy had pulled out of its deep, painful recession.
