Worst offenders are residents of Turin, Palermo

Over 12% of Italians use mobile phone at wheel (ANSA) - Forlì, December 27 - Over one in 10 Italian motorists has the dangerous habit of using their mobile phone when they are at the wheel, a survey by an association linked to Italy's road police, Asaps, said Friday.

According to the survey, based on the results of observations by Asaps volunteers at busy crossroads in many cities, 12.4% of Italians use their cell phones to talk, without earplugs, or send text messages while driving. It said the worst-offending cities were Turin and Palermo, where 14% use mobiles at the wheel.
