A 92% majority celebrating at home with family and friends

Italians to spend an average of 97 euros on Christmas dinner (ANSA) - Rome, December 24 - Italians will spend an average of 97 euros on Christmas dinner and 92% will consume it at home with family or friends, a survey by the Coldiretti national farmers' association showed Tuesday.

A majority of respondents intend to cook a traditional meal based on local and Italian products.

The survey also showed 16% of families budgeted 30-50 euros for their Christmas dinner, 41% plan to spend 50-100 euros, 30% will spend 100-200 euros and 6% will splurge over 200 euros. The Coldiretti survey showed 57% are spending the same amount as last year, 25% cut their Christmas dinner budget by half, 12% will spend more than last year, and 4% said they plan to spend less than half the amount they did in 2012.
