Soccer: Inter win Milan derby, Juve stay five points clear
Second-placed Roma thrash Catania 4-0, but leaders triumph 4-123 December, 16:13
(ANSA) - Rome, December 23 - Juventus thrashed Atalanta 4-1 to stay five points clear at the top of Serie A, while Inter won the Milan derby on the last day of action of the year in the Italian top flight on Sunday.
Second-placed AS Roma kept up the chase, thumping bottom side Catania 4-0 at home to set up an interesting top-of-the-table showdown against champions Juve after Serie A's Christmas break on January 5.
Juve have 46 points from 17 games after taking their winning streak up to nine matches, while Roma have 41. A remarkable late backheeled strike by Argentine Rodrigo Palacio gave Inter a 1-0 win over AC Milan in a derby that looks set to have no bearing on the outcome of the title race.
Fifth-placed Inter are 15 points behind Juve, while Milan are 27 points off the pace in 13th place.
Third-placed Napoli are 10 points adrift after being held 1-1 at Cagliari.
Fiorentina, who are fourth with 33 points, won 1-0 at third-from-bottom Sassuolo.
