'Doubting Thomases will be proved wrong on growth'

Recovery by EP elections says Letta

'Doubting Thomases will be proved wrong on growth' (ANSA) - Rome, December 23 - Italy will see its first real signs of economic recovery in the New Year and the "many Doubting Thomases" will be proved wrong, Premier Enrico Letta said in his end-of-year press conference Monday.

Letta said he was "convinced" the outlook for 2014 was "positive".

After its longest postwar downturn Italy posted zero growth in the third quarter of 2013, prompting some to see the first green shoots of recovery, although others disagreed.

Letta said GDP would pick up by the European Parliament elections at the end of May.
