Italy needs good dad on budget, 'not Father Xmas' - Letta (ANSA) - Brussels, December 20 - Premier Enrico Letta on Friday responded to criticism of his executive's 2014 budget package, saying that Italy does not need "Father Christmas" in government, but "a good father of a family" who makes "balanced decisions" on the public accounts that guarantee "credibility".

"Everyone makes requests (of the budget) but the sum of all of them would lead to the bankruptcy of the Italian State," he added.

"I take the responsibility to make the decisions".
