Russian draft amnesty may free 'Arctic 30', Pussy Riot (ANSA) - Moscow, December 9 - An amnesty drafted by President Vladimir Putin on the 20th anniversary of the Russian Constitution on Thursday may also be applied to the two jailed members of the Pussy Riot band and the Greenpeace 'Arctic 30' activists. Russian media reported the news Monday after the draft was presented by the president to the parliament's lower house and published on the Kremlin's website. The 28 Greenpeace activists - including the Italian Cristian D'Alessandro - and two freelance journalists were released on bail in November after spending several weeks in jail.

The group had been arrested in late September after some of the activists tried to scale an offshore drilling platform owned by state-owned natural gas giant Gazprom in Russia's far north. They were initially charged with piracy, which was later reduced to 'hooliganism'.
