Berlusconi MPs slam Senate panel decision
Open floor vote on ban 'a travesty and witch hunt'30 October, 16:30
They violated the rules and the Constitution. This is a firing squad", thundered MP Roberto Formigoni, former governor of Lombardy who quit last year amid a graft scandal.
"On the eve of Halloween, the Senate panel has improvised a Jacobin sabbath, an incredible witch hunt with the same old target: Silvio Berlusconi", said MP Riccardo Mazzoni.
"What happened today....sets a dangerous precedent", said MP Donato Bruno, who sits on the Senate panel that voted in favor of the open vote.
"This was a defeat for democracy. The Left is shameless, and there will be consequences because we can't stay in government with a party that shoots our leader in the back", threatened Renata Polverini, a former governor of the Lazio region who also resigned in 2012 amidst graft allegations.
"With its decision today, the Democratic Party has put the final touch on its 20-year war on Silvio Berlusconi, carrying out a unarmed coup d'état via the judicial system", said MP Luca d'Alessandro, who sits on the justice committee.
