(ANSA) - Paris, October 29 - Italy and Juventus midfielder
Andrea Pirlo was the only Italian to feature on the 23-man
shortlist for FIFA Ballon d'Or world player of the year award
that was announced Tuesday.
The list was drawn up by football experts from
international soccer's governing body FIFA and from France
It includes Barcelona and Argentina forward Lionel Messi,
the winner of the prize for the past four years, Portugal and
Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo and Bayern Munich's French
ace Franck Ribéry.
Two Italians are among 10 contenders for the coach of the
year award - Real Madrid's Carlo Ancelotti and Juventus boss
Napoli's Spanish coach Rafa Benítez is in the running too.
