Pope Francis praises the Christian family
Urges more recognition of families versus individual rights25 October, 15:17
(ANSA) - Vatican City, October 25 - Pope Francis on Friday called for more formal recognition of families in a world oriented toward individual rights and extolled the beauty of the Christian family at the 21st plenary of the Pontifical Council for the Family.
"We propose to everyone, with respect and courage, the beauty of matrimony and of the family illuminated by the gospel," said Pope Francis, inviting people to marry and have Christian families.
"The 'good news' for the family is a very important part of evangelization, Christians can communicate with everyone with the testimony of life," said the pope.
"This one sees in secularized societies. One can recognize the truly Christian families by their loyalty, patience, openness to life and respect for the elderly. The secret to all of this is the presence of Jesus in the family. We thus propose to all, with respect and courage, the beauty of matrimony and the Christian family," the pope explained. Pope expressed the need to be close to and support families in crisis, including cases where couples are separated, and appealed for more formal recognition for families for the formative role they play for each human being.
"The community-family...is not the sum of the people that make it up" but "the natural centre of human life," he said. "It asks to be recognized as such, even more today, when the protection of individual rights dominate," the pope concluded.
